“Gender-Bender” (make an item for the opposite gender, or make an item with elements inspired by the fashions of the opposite gender) und “Holes” (make a garment that is about holes, whether it is lace, slashing, eyelets, etc.) heißen die Aufgaben beim HSM für April und Mai. Da ich schon recht beschäftigt mit der Juli-Challenge bin, sind zwei nicht sehr aufregende, aber gut tragbare Kleidungsstücke herausgekommen.

Since I am quite busy with my project for July already, I made two rather unexiting, but very wearable garments.

Ich hatte ja im Januar mal wieder den Versuch unternommen, eine gut sitzende authentische 30er Jahre Hose zu nähen – das hatte funktioniert, nur gefiel sie mir nicht besonders. Also habe ich es nochmal versucht, diesmal ohne die tiefen Falten vorne, und das ist deutlich besser. Auch wenn die Bilder womöglich noch weniger hermachen als beim ersten Anlauf:

In January I had (once again) had a go at period correct 1930s trousers – which worked nicely, only I didn’t really like them. So I tried again, without the pleating in the front, and that’s much better. Although the pictures seem even more boring:

Sie hat jedenfalls zwei Abnäher hinten, aber keine vorne, was ich nächstes Mal wohl anders machen würde, die Rundung über den Hüften beult doch ein bisschen aus. Ansonsten sitzt sie aber prima, tief im Schritt und hoch in der Taille, wie es sein soll. Insgesamt hat sich aber mein Gefühl bestätigt: Meine Nähzeit ist mir doch zu kostbar um sie auf etwas zu verwenden, das mich so wenig interessiert wie Hosen. Die werde ich mir künftig kaufen – ziemlich sicher nicht ganz authentisch, aber wenn ich authentisch aussehen will, trag ja ich sowieso keine, oder jedenfalls höchst selten. Es verschwinden also auch mal Dinge von der Wunschliste, das ist doch auch ganz schön …

Anyway, they have two darts in the back but none in the front, which I wouldn’t do again next time, the sides are a little baggy. Apart from that they fit nicely, with a low crotch and a high waist, just as they should be. But I was right hesitating: the time I have for sewing is too precious to spend it on something I find as uninteresting as trousers. I will buy them in future – supposedly they will not be period correct, but when I want to look right, I don’t wear trousers anyway, or very seldom. So sometimes things do vanish from the wish list, too …

Für den Mai wollte ich also mal wieder etwas Hübsches machen – allerdings ließ das Thema “Löcher” zwar Bilder von Renaissanceroben mit geschlitzten Ärmeln oder geschnürten mittelalterlichen Miedern vor meinem Auge erstehen, aber eine Idee für etwas, das ich im Alltag tragen wollte, ließ sich bitten. Schließlich habe ich mich auf’s Sticken verlegt, genauer gesagt, auf die Weißstickerei. Die wiederum hätte eigentlich am Besten zu Wäsche, einem Nachthemd o.Ä. gepasst. Da hab ich aber gerade keinen Bedarf, also hat eine schlichte kleine Bluse eine schlichte kleine Stickerei bekommen:

So for May I wanted to make something pretty – only the challenge “Holes” made me think of renaissance robes with slashed sleeves or laced bodices from the middle ages, but an idea for something I would like to wear on a regular basis was not easy to find. In the end I decided to do some embroidery, whitework embroidery to be precise. This would be most appropriate for underwear, which I am not in need of. So a plain little blouse got some plain little embroidery:

Der Schnitt ist mal wieder der T-förmige Basisschnitt. Und die Vorzeichnung für die Stickerei habe ich freihändig mit diesem großartigen Stift gemacht, den man anschließend einfach wegbügeln kann, so wie hier.

The pattern is, once more, the T-shaped basic. And I drew the design for the embroidery with one of these great pens.

Der Ausschnitt ist mit selbst zugeschnittenem Schrägband versäubert, das sich gut unsichtbar von innen an der Stickerei annähen ließ. Ich mag die Bluse, ein hübsches Basic, das gut zu mir und meiner Garderobe passt.

I finished the neck with self fabric bias binding, which could easily be attached invisibly to the embroidery on the inside. I like this blouse, a pretty basic, suiting me and my wardrobe very well.
